The movie title is picked up from an old Amitabh-Shashistarrer called ‘Suhaag’ which had the song ‘Teri Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’,so this is the second movie-title picked from a Shashi Kapoor movie;earlier one being DDLJ. Anyways, that’s not what the post is about.
Previously, it was suspected that the movie is on the lines of My FairLady. But neither the promo nor the dual role of SRK suggests that. Moreover, the plot of a rustic village girl being transitioned into ahi-fi society girl and/or impersonating has been done to death inmovies like Raja Jani, Khel, MKTA etc
Anyways, I just got this mail that gives out a brief storyline of themovie. And though I would like to believe that the movie does not havesuch a theme, you never know. Adi can do anything. Let me first give abird’s eye view of the story.
So, SRK a simpleton is married off to a much younger woman. He has asmall time job and lives an ordinary life, but his nubile wife wantssome action in her life, some enthusiasm and a break from this normalroutine. Here in comes the dance portion. There is a dance contesttitled ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ being aired [Nach Baliye types] and hiswife wants to take part in it. SRK overhears this smallaspiration/wish of hers and realises that he has kind of tied down herlife and feels he should try and fulfil her wishes. Yeah, enter SRKgenX with hairs all gelled and tight t-shirt. How he enters the sceneand the contest with her is to be watched out. He pairs-up with herand probably goes on to win the contest. Even if they don’t win thecontest, he definitely wins her over in the last reel of the moviewhen she realises that he is her good-old-hubby.
This premise sounds pretty good and we can fairly fit in ShaimakDavar’s association, dance theme, SRK dual role and of course Big B’sguest appearance as one of the judges. But if we can recall, thistheme was a side-track in the movie ‘Aaja Nachle’, where Vinay Pathakredeems himself through the theatre/dance sequence and his wife findsnew respect and love for him.
Anyways, I just hope there is more to the movie than this. But havingseen Adi’s movies, all of which have wafer thin plots, this is quitepossible. The screenplay has to be strong to pull of such a lame themeand the dialogues have to be crisp.
Lets wait and watch, just a month to go before this year-end release.Keeping my fingers crossed that Adi has made a good ‘Jodi’
